Aurous - My Attempt at an open source spotify alternative.
    « on: September 03, 2014, 03:49:15 AM »
I've been working on a new application that will allow you to bring all of your favorite playlist from the likes of; Youtube, SoundCloud, Pandora, Spotify, Grooveshark and more into a single place to listen to instantly. All for free with no ads or downloading required.
Project Poptart is going live for its initial beta release and I'd love if you would take part in it. Read all about it below.

Just from a really quick glance, it looks like you should put some time into fixing up the design of the app. It looks kinda disorganized and haphazard. Also you probably shouldn't use a trademark name if you want to gain any popularity :|

A redesign is coming when I have my friend get done doing the new mockups.

The current version could use improvements though I won't deny that.

Also surprisingly Poptart isn't copyrighted, its Pop-tarts that is. However its just the project name.

    made available through the YouTube API;

No api uses outside of the public gdata information on videos; which is just title, length and thumbnails

Even though you're streaming music via other services I still feel like record companies are going to try to pound you into the ground with licensing.
what if i want to stick it in? you got a problem with that?

He would just have to move the server outside US' jurisdiction.

After really thinking about it this isn't even kind of a spotify alternative, it's really just a GUI that you use to organize music links that you can stream through the program.

    >free
    >no ads
    >search for music
    >get instant music
    >add playlist from multiple services
    >not spotify

That alone makes its a spotify alternative

    Basic soundcloud done

Yeah I was thinking about doing the exact same thing at one point. I was going to make a simple node-webkit app that used some sort of free API to find album/artist information, then in the background, download and stream the audio of YouTube videos.
