Headset microphone doesn't work
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:39:16 AM »
As the title says, my headset's microphone doesn't work. It's not damaged or anything, and I've went into the sound area, and made sure it was enabled. Can anyone find a fix for my microphone? It's a Sades SA-708
Thanks :D

Is the physical mute button set to mute? Layer 1 is where you should start ;)

Always start at Layer 1, TS'ing 101. Then check drivers, and if that doesn't work then uninstall windows and put Linux on it.

The on/off button on my headset is on. And I've tried installing the Sades Drivers, but it's not compatible with my version of Windows 7 "apparantly"

Ripped this from another website:

Okay. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc into the search box) and expand Sound...Controllers. If you do not see "Sigmatel" then you are using the native Windows audio driver which does not recognize external mics.  If that is the case then install the Sigmatel audio driver. There was not one for 7 so you have to use the Vista version.

Download Sigmatel R171788 and extract the files (unzip or unpack and make a note of the name of the folder that is created) but cancel the installation process. Go to the folder on the hard drive to which you unpacked the driver files
c:\Dell\Drivers\Rxxxxxx

Find the setup.exe file and right click on it. Select the Properties. Find the compatibility tab and select Vista.

After the driver is installed, go to the Control Panel and click on Sigmatel. Check the option to allow popups if it is not already checked. When you plug in your mic you should get a popup configuration window. Select mic, not line-in. (If you don't check "allow popups" then the jack configuration defaults to either mic or line-in. If it is line-in then the mic won't have enough boost to work.)

Note that the Vista version is most compatible with 7, but you ought to be able to use the same method above to install the XP version, Sigmatel R171789. That driver has stereo mix, which the Vista version lacks.

Note: This was for a dell.

Would that driver work for my headset?

EDIT: I tried the compatability thing, and now a message saying "Please connect the Sades SA-708 Gaming Headset" even though it's already plugged in

Yeah it was brand new, boxed an all that. I guess I need to refund this and buy a new mic. Recommend any good ones that are not too expensive, but actually work? ^_^

Idk what you would consider expensive, in terms of headsets and what not.

I have the green pair of those. But unlucky ol' me bought them when they were $99 now they're $79.

A good clear mic and decent headset is the Turtle Beach P11. Personal experience. Only 30 pound on amazon too.

Yep but if you take care of your things you probably wouldn't have went through 7 of them.
