Title: [RESOLVED] Most no-ip addresses disabled by microsoft
Post by: Moparisthebest on July 01, 2014, 12:35:41 PM
In fact, microsoft seized 22 domain names operated by no-ip (can anyone find me a list)?

http://www.noip.com/blog/2014/06/30/ips-formal-statement-microsoft-takedown/
https://arstechnica.com/security/2014/06/millions-of-dymanic-dns-users-suffer-after-microsoft-seizes-no-ip-domains/

This affects us mainly because many servers on the serverstatus page use these domains, which are now offline and need to be changed asap, and the recent downtime wiped.

If you have one of these domain names on the server status page, please post a link to your server and the new domain name you'd like it pointed to on this thread and I will take care of it, including adjusting uptime.

change the ip to 72.20.52.30

Much appreciated, and hopefully this didn't effect up time counter too much.

Updated:
/top-rsps/=72.20.52.30

And I fix the uptime counter too, removing all 'down' checks since the time microsoft took over:
Code: SQL
  1. UPDATE $db_name SET ip ='$new', totalcount =(totalcount -((TIMESTAMPDIFF(HOUR,'2014-06-30 00:00:00.000000', NOW())*2)+1))WHERE ip ='$old'
  2. UPDATE $db_name SET totalcount =0WHERE totalcount <0
  3. UPDATE $db_name SET oncount = totalcount WHERE oncount > totalcount

fudge you David, always ruining my F.U.N.
You asked for proof. Then he gave proof. I don't know what you expected.

Edit: for shits n giggles, I pinged a couple (only 2) of domains microsoft took.
I then searched that IP on the interwebs.
Then I found this:

(That's not the entire list...)

Basically any domain under this IP is owned by microsoft.

Maybe give everyone a one-time IP change if they're on the list of affected IPs? May come in handy again, so might as well implement it (in similar events).

Lolwut. MS claimed that this was suppose to get rid of some malware distributors. Maybe they should work on fixing their OS instead.

This was in order to stop botnets that used no-ip's free DNS redirects. Or at least that's their essential reasoning behind doing it.

I feel like I'm the only one this didn't affect... My server uses a .no-ip.org and it's working perfectly, refreshes correctly and lets players log on. I've been using it since May too. What do you mean by they 'seized' these domains?

They took control and now own them.
Open up cmd (search cmd in windows start menu) and right click it, then run as administrator.
type:
ping no-ip.org
(then hit enter)

Edit:
It looks like no-ip.org is still owned by No-ip?

This seems like a ridiculous way to stop attackers so i'm glad they got it back. What was the judge thinking?
