    Most complete source?
    « on: February 06, 2016, 10:57:09 AM »
All the links to sources seem to be dead other than MoparClassic on GitHub. Anyone know which source was the most RSC clone complete in terms of quests, shops, etc.

    I always liked Yong Min's Noobscape v3.

I suppose I'll improve it a bit and throw it up on GitHub for everyone. No reason to let things die out when interest is still ongoing.

    Downloading it now. Thanks!

As a follow up - all of the mirrors for old sources (rscdv25, DQ, RSCDEF, etc.) seem to be down. Does anyone have an archive? I'd be happy to maintain several new mirrors.

    Thanks a bunch.

I've gotten NOOBscape v3 deployed. I was a bit disappointed - its definitely got its bugs. But it's working pretty well. Here's a little overview of what I've done with it:

    • I've pulled the Applet off the server and have JRuby acting as the loader. Going to use that to eventually act as a management bridge between either a CLI or a web UI and the game server.
    • Also slowly moving all of the persistence out of the flat file properties. Will probably use Mongo for production data storage. Will do the same for entities at some point, including client entities for easy entity updating.
    • Going to attempt to tackle performance and scalability issues too. I moved the server over to ParallelGC. That had a noticeable impact, but I'm sure there's a dozen more things that could help.
    • Going to make a scripting interface for the client using a custom language - similar to AutoRune. Then I want to make a headless version of the client that can run a script.

Truthfully, I'm just tinkering on nights and weekends but it's fun!

Are you the same alex who developed DarkQuest?

    @cleako: https://github.com/gen0cide/firescape

Peeter and I were the original two developers on DarkQuest. I did most of the custom graphics/textures/items/landscape modifications and did a lot of our sys/network administration work. At the height of it, Tewl and TX were DoS'ing us pretty bad. I had us colo'd with an 5510ASA and some pretty crafty firewall rules. Jamie/Dub/Rick?(Think that was dudes name) were mostly on the community management side.

I also hacked around with al3x (rscdv25) before DarkQuest. The separation of gameserver from loginserver was something we worked on together and we did R&D projects just testing stuff out.

What the fudge is going on in this thread.

    Levinson, is that you?
Dark Quest? I miss my Warcraft spell scrolls.
Jamie/Dub, TX, Tewl, Peter, there's no reason for RuneScape related info to take up so much of my memory.
Blue team? We talking security competitions/events?
I accidental crept on you(Alex) a while back while doing some research for my first security event. Saw the name "Alex Levinson" in some random ass docs and had to follow the rabbit hole from there.
Just checked your comment history to see if it was you and would up in an old thread. TARC, Zero, xEnt, Duel Shark, RaW, Wiz, FriskyDonkey(jesus that's an old one), KO9, neat, that guy in 2008 didn't think I was a "second generation faggot", oh the nostalgia.

Time to spend another couple hours digging through old archive.org mirrors.
