This thread is dead. Mopar failed to deliver, just like on the other rs2 server. Although I don't agree with kizl's method, I'm not really against it either. The people who are tired of waiting years to be told nothing was done, should be redirected to a server that's actually being worked on.

It does draw awareness to the project for those interested in checking out how it was written but without a centralized DDoS protected server being operated by a dedicated individual, projects will go inactive. What I like the most is that this project was made available through GitHub. I greatly respect those who believe in open source. Perhaps it is time to unsticky this topic though and close the Moparscape Classic boards. MoparClassic could still be revived but there are several elements that I personally would take out, such as the use of scala and reddit authentication. I can appreciate what scala is capable of but for everyday use, much of what was added felt as if it was added for the sake of using scala instead of improving functionality or response time. I know that I am still a novice with programming and perhaps I am mistaken about scala but from what I have observed, that is my opinion about it right now.

Using Scala made a lot of the codebase easier to deal with. I don't understand why people keep acting like it's magic and oh so different from Java. If you know Java, then you should be able to understand the Scala.

That might be the case for you, but many here barely know Java. Just enough to make few edits here and there. Mixing scala into it made that even harder, which is why people prefer DarkQuest over MoparClassic.

In all honesty, all effort should be made towards making your own game that you can call your own.
RSC Update: JMods still lack interest. Lots and lots of debating.
Another Update: Jagex still doesn't a fk. GG Community

Most of the Scala stuff is in things that they shouldn't be editing, or in places where it makes it much easier if you use Scala. The places that people would be editing, that are written in Scala (object action handlers and npc handlers), have a ton of examples for them to look at. In addition, if they're adding new things, they can just do it in Java...

Yeah, come on lads sort it out. If you've managed to "barely learn" Java then you can "barely learn" Scala too.. it's not fundamentally more difficult.

Why would they bother? If you can just choose another source without scala.

Hahaha. I don't think the Biebs uses the term "lads" though.

Because they put the scala in scalable..

They don't need to learn Scala... They can create Java classes and interact with Scala parts as if it was written in Java.
