Unable to edit your post? Look here!
    « on: March 04, 2014, 07:44:20 AM »
    Hey guys,
The forums now have a feature that disables post editing after two weeks. That said, this feature takes effect in the advertisements board as well. If you are unable to edit your post at any time, either post in this thread with your postlocked advertisement or go ahead and message myself or a global moderator and we'll go ahead and reset the post timer for you. Just so everyone knows, the current timer is set at two weeks. This is not a thread to argue or question the existence of the edit timer, so please refrain from doing so.
    Thanks, and happy advertising!

If this becomes a common occurrence in this board (I hope it won't), then I can look into disabling the timer in this board only.

Even though the OP says to not ask, as long as it doesn't lead to spam or an argument I think it's reasonable to ask what the point of the feature is once.

How does anyone know who you're replying to if you deleted their posts?

But why is there such feature , Is it necessary?
It was included in the forum upgrade, it stops people from editing post that were made ages ago. It's a useful feature but has it's drawbacks in this section & a few others.

I feel like this really backfires in the dev sections
So does this apply to all topics or simply topics that haven't been edited in two weeks? Because if it's all topics that pretty much gives dev topics a two week lifespan which is horrible

It applies to all topics in all sections, it looks at when the last edit of a post was to see if it's been 2 weeks.

What if you made a typo ages ago that you just noticed? Everybody has a reason for editing their posts. I really don't think this was needed.

It could become very common for people to request messages to be edited. Do staff really need that work load?

Just remembered that we can't delete our posts or double post either. Therefore if someone doesn't reply, your topic will remain unedited and unchangeable forever. This is ridiculous
