    Plan

The plan currently is to completely research, document, and implement the foundation for a build 530 server. Cosmos utilizes Scapeemulator as the basis for the framework currently, plans to shift that around are in progress after functionality is implemented. The  section has plenty of planned features and status updates on what has been done.

Have you considered changing networking code so that it isn't stupidly object heavy? If there's one thing we always did wrong in previous servers it was the gratuitous packet object. The amount of garbage collector pressure would have been astounding.

I don't see much of an issue with it. I think directly reading from a byte buffer wouldn't hurt either though. The packet object just enforces certain polices that make the flow of adding in new codecs a tad easier.

There's loads of issues with it - every time you enter the garbage collector for a gen2 sweep.
It's a java application, but that doesn't mean it can produce near-zero garbage (and therefore run perpetually with very little garbage collection occurring, and consequently low latency response times relative to its peers).

But are we engineering for situations where this will ever be a problem or is it a premature optimization to even be considering this?

definitely a premature optimization lol, i wouldn't worry about it unless you've profiled and determined that GC cycles are having a significant impact on performance
