[GitHub] [Project] Sassy Lemur - A SASS Framework
« on: December 18, 2016, 06:45:54 PM »
Hey There!

Contribute to the project on GitHub!

Check out the Wiki Sassy Lemur Wiki Pages!

Okay so quick introduction since this is my first time posting on the forums.  I had just recently finished finals and I was bored out of my mind so I was looking around for a project to help out - didn't find any (I didn't look too hard) so I decided to just make a website template for people who may want it.

So basically before I explain how to customize it here is a live demo: Live Demo

LINK IS VERSION 1: FOR MOST CURRENT UPDATE GO TO THE GITHUB REPOSITORY AND FORK/CLONE/DOWNLOAD!
Ok great, let's say you like it enough to download it... Here's the link: Outdated - Go to the GitHub Repository and download.

Like what you see? Know what your doing? Contribute to the project on GitHub!

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU WANT CAN BE FOUND ON THE WIKI! - Sassy Lemur Wiki Page

DO NOT FORGET TO COMPILE THE .SCSS FILE AFTER YOU MAKE YOUR CHANGES!

Thanks!

If you have any questions please feel free to comment.  If you have anything you would like to say (constructive or positive) feel free to comment.

You may change this as you please, I created the hamburger.png image so I guess I'm giving you permission to use it but I didn't make that default header image so you'll probably want to change that.

PS: I'm always looking for a project, whether it be programming (Java, Python, C++) or web related.

One thing I would clarify a bit more is what you can/cannot edit without SCSS compilation. Although I would discourage editing the compiled CSS at all.

Your footer could do with a bit more template-love, an inexperienced user won't be able to add much information to the 2 lines provided without adding significant markup and styling, maybe put a list in there + some more room for text info? RSPS scene also loves being able to add their logo to the footer + main header, inexperienced users might find this challenging to work in.

Also would be cool to see more pages on the live example - or is there only a home page in the template?

Otherwise cool to see more modern web stuff going on in the forum, pre-processors and responsive sites are badly neglected in the scene.

Definitely will work on the footer when I get the chance, thanks for that feedback!  And yes, right now there is only the homepage, but it's kind of just a test to see if people want me to continue with it, I will add more pages to the template assuming people want it.  But yeah, I was really tired of seeing websites that aren't up to speed.  Granted the design looks a little old due to lack of graphics, but it's really easy to add your design to the template.

It's definitely a great start. I think if you expand on it a bit more you will gain much more attention and interest early on! Some ideas I have are:
• premade colour schemes
• rsps related page templates, i.e high scores, donor/stores, these would be a big attention grabber as they are very commonly used
• spots for generic ads

Awesome ideas.  I decided to make the template open-source with the abilities for people to add Partials and Plugins.  I created one earlier today (it's super easy) for the hiscores page.

Basically a partial is a styling plugin for a page you might have, and a plugin will be features that would go in a page.  For example advertisements would be a plugin rather than a partial.  On the other hand styling for a Hiscore page would be a partial. (Even though they are both partials as far as SASS is concerned - it's just for organization).

This makes customization easier than ever, and with it being open-source people can add their own plugins and partials to the project.

(For example I'm leaving it up to someone to create a 2 column homepage layout partial)

The template is very vanilla - it doesn't contain many graphics but it is exceptionally easy to add your own.

PS: Hiscores is now a page on the live demo.

Also, I created an advertisements plugin for those who wish to add advertisements to their template.

You can do so by adding
Code: [Select]
@import "plugins/advertisement"; at the bottom of your main.SCSS file.

Then in any HTML document where you want the advertisement to appear you would simply add a DIV with the class long_advertisement
Code: [Select]
<div class="long_advertisement"></div>
